The Maker: Don Green

Studio Furniture maker Don Green, has operated his shop facility in upstate New York for 20 + years. Formally trained as a sculptor, his work is pared down to simple elements that are designed and executed well. He embodies the sensibility of a sculptor and the temperament of a factory foreman. Each piece is individually made, signed and dated by Green. Green is known for his heirloom quality wood furniture, traditionally constructed, in domestic and exotic hardwoods. In addition to the line of furniture, Green offers custom design services to meet specific requirements and specifications. In tables, sideboards, seating, desks, dressers, media units and home accessories, Green's mission remains to realize innovative design that respects traditional and classic values.   Over the span of his career, Green has been a recipient of the NEA's Mid Atlantic Grant Foundation, two fellowship grants from the NY State Foundation for the Arts and a fellowship grant from the Empire State Craft Alliance. He has also received Best n Show at the American Craft Exposition and the Bronze Award at the Smithsonian Craft Show. Green's work has also been published in numerous publications.

When Don is not busy making furniture or teaching woodworking, he keeps himself occupied with other exciting and creative endeavors. From house and boat building, to traveling, Don Green's need to be industrious seems to drive him from project to project.
